William Gardner “Bill” Sutton, III, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at his home. He was born in Huntington, Indiana, on January 31, 1939, a son of the late Bernard F. Sutton and Dorothy A. (Seefeld) Sutton.
Bill graduated from Huntington High School in 1956 and attended St. Joseph College.
On April 4, 1959, he married Doris Anne (Poulson) Sutton at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hessen Cassel, IN.
He was employed at Magnavox Corporation in Ft. Wayne and with Commercial Filters in Lebanon before starting his own janitorial supplies and services business. After moving to Lebanon in 1962, Bill was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of Elks Lodge 635, where he enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of the Kiwanis for 40 years and served as club President from 1985 to 1986. He also served as Kiwanis Lt. Governor for the region. Bill spearheaded the coordination of Lebanon’s Share Food program.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris Sutton; children, Michael (Cindi) Sutton of Ft. Worth, TX, Mathias (Leslie) Sutton of West Lafayette, IN, Anne Beckley of Pendleton, IN, Mark (Ester) Sutton of Harker Heights, TX, John Sutton of Springfield, AR, and Barbara (Bill) Fetter of St. Charles, IL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Alice (Keith) Hoover of Bloomington, IN.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Alan Beckley and daughter-in-law, Christy Sutton.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the spring. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon, Indiana has been entrusted with his arrangements.
