Randy DeWayne Lawson departed this earthly world on October 1st, 2024 in Gainesville, Fl. He was born to James and Betty Lawson in New Castle, IN on July 31, 1964. His death came after an acute illness that he fought diligently until the end. Randy was a well-known broadcaster and former radio personality. He worked in radio all his adult life. He attended Ball State University for some time and dabbled in radio. He got his true start during his Air Force service and within that time deployed to Panama and Turkey. He met his first wife, Perla, in Panama and quickly became part of the family. Panama is also where he developed his love for carimañola and welcomed his first child into the world. Later, Randy came back to the central Indiana area and worked in Muncie and Frankfort as a radio personality and producer. He opened his own studio for voice over work in 2002 and managed this successful business until his final days. In his youth, Randy enjoyed going to Cincinnati Reds baseball games with his father, uncle Bill and friends. He raved over his grandma Lawson’s cherry pie and made sure to keep those memories alive, along with his uncle Bills’ after Bill’s death. Randy was ambitious, funny and sarcastic. He was always ready to give a good joke and receive one. He was organized and practical, a realist. He told the best stories with impeccable impressions. Randy enjoyed learning and sharing his family history. He loved a good song and had a strong palate for good music of all genres and time periods. He enjoyed spending time with friends over food, the outdoors and following politics. He made frequent trips to TN to visit his grandkids, whom he loved and cherished very much. Randy was held dear by family and many friends. Often, former coworkers describe him as a mentor and “one of the good ones.” In recent years, Randy struggled with chronic health issues but continued to be diligent and remained hopeful that things would improve. Despite his medical challenges, he lived life to the fullest in traveling, riding his motorcycle and continuing his business endeavors. He lived most of the time in Eastpoint, Fl where he visited with many friends and spent precious time with his four-legged companion, Lucy. He enjoyed renovating his home, frequenting restaurants in town and living a quiet life. Randy is survived by daughters Candice (James) Platt of TN and Emily Lawson of Indianapolis, siblings Sherry (Jeff) Winchester of Muncie and Belinda (Jim) Miller of Franklin, his loving grandchildren Camden and Tristan Carson, Brielle and Luna and Keanu Platt, and his beloved dog Lucy.
