Team USA holds the all-time record for a non-boycotted Games after winning 121 total medals in Rio in 2016. >>LeBron James, Coco Gauff To Serve As U.S. Flag Bearers (Paris) -- NBA superstar LeBron James and tennis star Coco Gauff will serve as the flag bearers for the United States at the Paris Olympics. James and Gauff were chosen by a vote of fellow Team USA athletes. It's the second straight Summer Games two flag bearers were chosen to help promote gender equality. Gauff is the first ever U.S. tennis player to earn the honor. James is the first man and third member of USA Basketball to carry the flag, joining Sue Bird in 2020 and Dawn Staley in 2004. James will be making his fourth Olympics appearance overall, which ties the record. The U.S. men begin group play on Sunday against Serbia. >>U.S. Women's Soccer Shuts Out Zambia To Open Olympics (Nice, France) -- The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team opened the group stage of the 2024 Summer Games with a 3-0 victory over Zambia at Allianz Riviera. Trinity Rodman put the Americans on top with a goal in the 17th minute of the match. Mallory Swanson recorded a brace after scoring in the 24th and 25th minutes. The USWNT is tied atop Group B with Germany at three points and will take on the Germans Sunday afternoon. The men's team plays its next match tomorrow against New Zealand. >>Seven-Time Gold Medalist Dressel Goes For More Gold In Paris (Paris) -- Seven-time gold medalist Caeleb Dressel is gearing up to defend several titles at the Paris Olympics. The American won five gold medals in Tokyo, becoming just the fifth swimmer ever to win five in a single games. His seven golds overall currently ranks fourth among American men's swimmers, one behind Matt Biondi and two back of Mark Spitz. Michael Phelps holds the all-time record with 23 gold medals. Dressel's first medal chance will come on Saturday in the men's 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay.
