Mark Joseph Meister, 74, of Lebanon, Indiana, passed away at home on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Mark was born on November 7, 1949, in Beech Grove, Indiana, the youngest son and child of William A. Meister and Rita (Greenwood) Meister. He married Jami Stapleton on April 15, 2000, and she survives. Mark graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1968. Upon graduating, Mark worked a short time for International Harvester in Indianapolis, Indiana before entering the United States Army. Mark served in the Army during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, Mark worked for Gene Lewis Ford, Lebanon, Indiana as a mechanic. Shortly after leaving Gene Lewis Ford, Mark began working as a fabricator for 3-K Racing, Lebanon, Indiana fabricating and repairing race cars and later helping to fabricate the Kenyon Race Cars for Don and Mel Kenyon. Mark worked for the Kenyon’s for a little over 40 years. He continued to work in their shop as a self-employed fabricator building V-8 Chopper Motorcycles for V-8 Choppers out of Miami, Oklahoma until he retired. Mark was a life member of the Pioneer Engineer Steam Club, Rushville, Indiana where he and his family were involved for many years. He attended their annual steam show almost every year. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #113, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2062 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mark enjoyed racing, steam shows, silversmithing, and anything that involved working with his hands. He was highly praised by many for his excellent fabrication work. Survivors include his wife, Jami Meister; step-children, Joel (Megan) Gibson, Carmel, Douglas Gibson, brother, Carl Meister, Indianapolis, sisters, Ann Lynch, Lebanon, Bonnie LeGwin, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Agnes Hutchison, Indianapolis, and Jean (Paul) McMullen, Stillwater, Oklahoma, mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Jayne Stapleton, Lebanon, sister-in-law Melissa (John) Fischer, Lebanon and sister-in-law Robyn Stapleton, Indianapolis, 4 step-grandchildren (Kyle, Jude, Stella and Brohdi), 30 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marie Grannan and step-granddaughter, Jolene Gibson. The family prefers memorial contributions to be made to the American Legion Post #113, 1020 Hendricks Drive, Lebanon, Indiana 46052. A funeral Mass is scheduled for November 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon, Indiana with Father David Newton presiding. Friends and family can gather at 8:45 a.m. prior to Mass time. A Military Rites Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass. There will be a small gathering that evening at the American Legion Post #113, 1020 Hendricks Drive, Lebanon, Indiana from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in celebration of Mark’s life.
