Marcia L. (Peabody) Butner, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Autumn Trace in Lebanon. She was born May 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Herman (Doc) and Gladys Peabody. On March 10, 1954, Marcia married her high school sweetheart, Charles Butner, in Lebanon. Marcia was raised and educated in Boone County. Following their marriage, she followed Charles who had enlisted in the Air Force from 1954 until 1962, with stays in England and Montana. Returning to Lebanon after Charles’ service, she took to raising three children. She then worked with Charles at Wallace Filters and with her brother, Steve, at Tropic-Kool Engineering. She also worked with her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Peabody at MJ Flowers in Lebanon. Upon Charles’ retirement they moved to Largo, Florida and she went to work for Classic Doors in Clearwater. Upon Charles’ death in August 2019, Marcia moved back to Lebanon, where she always loved being outdoors with flowers and spending time with her family. Survivors include her brother, Steve (Mary Jane) Peabody; sons, David (Beth) Butner and Doug (Bonnie) Butner; grandchildren, Nicole (Jonathon) Chambers, Ryan (Meg) Butner, Kyle Butner, Denise Ellis, Zach Butner, and Carl Costello; great grandchildren, Mia Chambers, Aiden and Austin Ellis, and Kinley and Kate Butner. In addition to her parents and husband, Marcia was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Costello. Family and friends will gather Saturday, July 13, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
