Leona Frances Haverkamp, 88, passed away at Brownsburg Health Care Center in Brownsburg, Indiana on Monday, April 29, 2024. She was born in Union Township, Indiana on July 25, 1935, a daughter of the late Omer J. and Mittie (Dailey) Haverkamp. Leona was a 1953 graduate of Pinnell High School in Boone County. She attended Indiana Business College, completing the bookkeeping and machines course in 1954. She later went on to complete nurses’ training. Leona graduated from the School of Practical Nursing, class of 1959. This was her calling, and she loved it. Leona was employed as a nurse at Eli Lilly & Company for several years and retired. She was a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church in Indianapolis. Leona was an avid sports fan with basketball being a favorite. She always watched the Indiana Pacers and followed the NCAA, rooting for the Purdue Boilermakers. She enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts on Sundays among others. Survivors include her beloved cousins, Jane (John) Duquenne and Rusty (Sarah) Haverkamp.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery, 935 East Washington Street, in Lebanon. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with her cremation arrangements. Memorials may be directed in her memory to Chapel Rock Christian Church, 2020 N Girls School Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46214.
