Larry Shepherd

Mr. Larry Shepherd, 90, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, Jul. 31, 2023, at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. Larry was born Sunday, Nov. 27, 1932, in Lebanon, a son of the late Joseph Bennett “Roy” and Thelma (Prater) Shepherd. He married Carolyn A. Neal on Jan. 17, 1956. She preceded him in death Mar. 25, 2021. Larry graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1950. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from Jun. 12, 1952, until the time of his discharge on Jun. 10, 1955. Larry worked as an aircraft machinist for Indiana Gear Works, which later became Buehler, for 34 years, retiring in 1995. Larry was proud to be a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Past Patron), Siloam Lodge #609 F & AM (Paster Master), Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, and York Rite. He also belonged to American Legion Post 113, the Boone County Antique Tractor Club, Antique Tractor Club- Hoosier 2 Cylinder Club, and the Pontiac Oakland Club. He also served on the Whitestown town board for eight years, during the 1980’s. Survivors include his children, Bruce (Linda) Shepherd, Steven (preceded in death by wife, Jeane) Shepherd, Dennis (Lillie) Shepherd, and Greg Shepherd; grandchildren, Amy Mockobee, Aaron Shepherd, Brittany Shepherd, Rebekah Shepherd, and Drew Shepherd; step- grandchildren, Katie Day, Donnie Starwalt, Chris (Maria) Gee, Jennifer (Rob) Lockhart, and Stephanie (Brad) Hughes; thirteen great grandchildren; six step- great grandchildren; one great great grandson; half-sister, Linda Clark; half-brother, David Shepherd; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and loving wife of 65 years, Larry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stacey Stanger; brother, Jim Shepherd; half-brother, Jerry Shepherd; brother- and sister- in- law, Mark and Marilyn (Neal) Witham; and brother-in-law, Stanley Neal. Family and friends will gather Monday, Aug. 7, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. beginning with Military Rites, the Order of the Eastern Star Rites, and Masonic Rites, in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Larry will be laid to rest at Browns Wonder Cemetery in Lebanon.  Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Browns Wonder Cemetery to help with maintenance, 1626 Douglas Lane, Lebanon, IN 46052.
