John "David" Jackson, 79, of rural Jamestown, passed away Friday, August 30th, 2024, in Lebanon. David was born on May 30th, 1945, to John and Geneva (Davidson) Jackson. He graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1963, where he shot the game-winning point that secured the Rockets their 1963 Basketball Sectional title. In 1967, he joined the Army and served two tours in Vietnam as a combat helicopter pilot, reaching the rank of Captain. His bravery and dedication earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Silver Star for extreme acts of heroism, a testament to his courage and commitment to his country. After serving, David returned home to the family farm in rural Jamestown, where he had the opportunity to witness four generations of his family farming in his lifetime and continue the role the Jacksons have played in Boone County agriculture since the 1830s. He was a good steward of the land and well-known for helping friends and neighbors whenever possible. David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie (Crostreet) Jackson, and his two sons, Jeff (Tanya) Jackson of Lizton and Jim (Jodi) Jackson of Jamestown. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Levi (Amanda), Dalton, Kassi, Taylor, Bailey, and John. David also leaves behind his brother, Danny (Debbie) Jackson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna (Jackson) Mercer. David will be remembered for his strong spirit, big laugh, love for family, and unwavering sense of duty. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. There is more laughter in Heaven after David Jackson walked through those gates. Services for David will be on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at New Brunswick Church of Christ. Calling will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service following. A short graveside service with military honors will follow at Old Union Cemetery. In place of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or New Brunswick Church of Christ.
