Fire Displaces Family On Lafayette Court

At approximately 1:33 PM on April 13th, Engine 212 was dispatched to 1017 Lafayette Ct on report of an active smoke detector that had been going off in a neighboring residence for approximately 30 minutes. Lebanon Police Department officers responded to the scene and upon arrival advised smoke showing and that they were going to force the door to attempt and clear the residence of occupants. Boone County Communications personnel upgraded the call to a structure fire and additional fire apparatus was started at 1:35 PM. LPD officers advised they did not find anyone in the residence but were unable to access a back bedroom due to poor conditions.

Engine 212 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing, establishing command of the scene and marking out with fire attack. Engine 222 arrived shortly after and was assigned to a primary search of the structure. The primary search found no one in the residence and attack crews quickly brought the fire under control. Additional apparatus arrived on scene and assisted to ensure no fire extension into the attic and perform overhaul operations in the residence. The family in the unit are displaced due to the amount of fire and smoke damage to the residence and are being assisted by the Salvation Army.

  Lebanon Fire Department investigators were on scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation at the time of the incident. Due to initial observations and statements gathered from personnel on scene, the cause was determined to be electrical in nature. The investigation is closed at this time.
