David W. Syphers

David W. Syphers peacefully died on October 16, 2024, in Lebanon, IN, at the age of 85. He was a loved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Dave was born March 8, 1939, in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital, a son of the late Reverend Willis A. Syphers and Juanita May Harrison Syphers. Dave graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1957. He attended Indiana Central in Indianapolis. Dave played the drums in high school and he loved music from Big Band, the 50’s, and country. During high school and college, Dave worked as manager at the popular Westlake Beach, which afforded him the opportunity to meet numerous big band leaders whose bands played there for dancing in the pavilion. He worked for Fairmont Foods (Chesty Potato Chips) for several years, living in Terre Haute, Louisville, Des Moines, and Omaha. He helped start KAP’s Potato Chip Company with Pete Peterson and Dick Kearns. He also worked for Eastern Foods in Indianapolis and Syphco, Inc. in Cincinnati. He spent several years with Jackson Associates in Noblesville and had many fond memories of his friends there. After retiring, Dave worked part-time with Acosta Sales and Marketing. Dave always loved sports, especially basketball, which he played in high school and college. He loved watching football and cheered for the Bears and the Colts. He also enjoyed golf and played in several leagues throughout the years. He enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids participate in numerous sports. Dave enjoyed the traveling required in his work and also the leisurely trips he took after he retired. Dave is survived by his wife, Jan (Josefek, Green) Syphers; children from his previous marriage to Donna Baker, Denise (Mike) Beach of Delphi, Deann (Bill) Rusie of Mooresville, and Dave (Stacy) Syphers of Snyder, CO; siblings, Karen (Mike) Wukitsch of Mooresville, Dianne (Walt) Williams of Monticello, and Bill “Bingo” (Kim) Syphers of Monticello; step-children, Paul (Caryn) Green of Carmel, Steve (Becca) Green of Indianapolis, and numerous precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Marni Green. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a dog rescue organization, a veteran’s group, or to a charity of your choice. Family and friends will gather Monday, October 21, for a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, IN. Burial will immediately follow.
