Boone REMC is celebrating its Operation Round Up program nearing $1 million in community grants awarded since the program's inception on the evening of Tuesday, June 18. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Boone REMC is guided by the seven cooperative principles. The Boone REMC Community Fund, Inc., known as Operation Round Up, was established in April 2006, to demonstrate "concern for community" - one of the seven cooperative principles. Operation Round Up is funded by our members who allow their electric bills to be rounded to the next highest dollar each month. Those extra cents (no more than 99 cents per month, or $11.88 per year, per member) are deposited into the Community Fund. Quarterly, an independent board of trustees reviews grant requests for projects that support economic development, youth, the environment, disaster relief, and community service. Members of Boone REMC and representatives from local media outlets are invited to join us as we celebrate the big impact that small change has had on our local communities over the last 18 years. The event is a way for the cooperative to say "thank you" to our members for participating in the Round Up program. When: Tuesday, June 18, 6-7:30 p.m. Where: Whitestown Branch of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 6310 Albert S. White Drive, Whitestown, IN 46075 What: Light dinner and tours of the Whitestown library (a recent Operation Round Up grant recipient) will be provided from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A presentation on the history and guidelines of the Operation Round Up program will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion with former and current board trustees.
