AED Use Saves Life

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, at approximately 4:07pm, Deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of E County Road 550N in Forest for a 69 year old unresponsive male, not breathing, with CPR in progress performed by the 911 caller.

Minutes later, EMT Seth Kirkendall with Forest Volunteer Fire Department arrived and confirmed that the patient was in cardiac arrest. Sergeant Thomas Pelling arrived at the scene and immediately retrieved his Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Kirkendall applied Sergeant Pelling's AED. Within two minutes of Sergeant Pelling's arrival, the first of two shocks were administered from his AED. Chest compressions were continued until Clinton County EMS arrived and took over with their equipment.

The patient was stabilized, with a confirmed heart rate, and transported for treatment to an Indianapolis hospital. At our last update, his condition was stable.
