On Tuesday March 19th, 2024, at 10:49pm, Whitestown Metropolitan Police Officers as well as Whitestown Fire Department/EMS were dispatched to an accidental discharge of a firearm resulting in injury to a juvenile at the Woodspring Suites extended stay hotel 6007 Perryworth Road. Upon arriving, Officers located a 1-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the stomach and immediately began administering emergency medical trauma measures. WFD personnel arrived shortly after, took over advanced medical aid, and transported the 1-year-old to a local area trauma center for treatment. The 1-year-old male is currently in stable but critical condition. The discharge of the firearm occurred as the 1-year old’s father, Tavyon Calahan (22) of Whitestown was handling the firearm in the hotel room. All those involved in this incident are cooperating with WMPD Detectives as they continue their ongoing investigation.
