She was born January 9, 1941, in Richlands, Virginia, a daughter of the late Joseph Kyle and Alta Claire (Puckett) Christian. Gay married Paul Thomas Hodges on October 6, 1956. She was born July 12, 1947, in Lebanon, Indiana, a daughter of the late Loren and Fern (Everett) Armstrong. On September 22, 1967, she was married to David W. Merritt in Lebanon; he survives.
