Mr. Samuel Leroy Highland, Jr., 60, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at The Waters of Lebanon. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on June 12, 1966, a son of Samuel Leroy Highland, Sr. and Katrina J. (Vansickle) Whiteside. Sam was graduate of Lebanon High School. Through the years, he had worked as a chef at the Crawfordsville Country Club; and prior to that he worked as a machinist. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Crawfordsville. Social Security numbers and names of all Boone County employees were inadvertently shared July 21 by the Department of Child Services to at least two vendors who work with the county. Beth Copeland, attorney for the county, stated in an email that a DCS employee sent an email with the spreadsheet that included the names and Social Security numbers to four county employees and two outside vendors.
